7/25/11 Heavenly Father Watches Over His Missionaries

Hello Family & Friends!

So this was a pretty intense week! Had a few cool things happen and by the sound of all the letters i didnt get, it sounds like not a whole lot happened at home ;) but the few emails i got were good! so thank you very much for those!  Well here's my week!

Monday 7-18-11
We had Monday Funday at 8 AM! Yes! Back to the good old days :D  It was ok, not a whole bunch of people showed up but we still had fun.  Our investigator who we are teaching right now showed up.  He's such a cool guy.  His name is Sven and he's getting baptized on the 30th! YES!!!

For the most part, this P-day we spent it in the other Elders Apartment, hanging out, doing laundry, playin games, writing letters.  All that good jazz...

We had an awesome dinner with the Johnson family.  They had a girl there who wasnt a member which is way awesome.  We have 3 Potentials and they are all young women... :/  They all went to girls came this week too so hopefully they all come back ready to learn more about the GOSPEL!  But anyways, the Johnsons thought i was going to be the one to be transfered, so when i got there they had made me a tie, bow tie, and a shirt hanky thing... all out of duct tape.  Its pretty sweet.  They are awesome! i'm going to miss that family a lot.  While we were there we sat around a fire at ate hot dogs and made shmoze.

Then we went to the De Silvas house where we taught Sven.  That was way fun because since he knows everything we did the Gospel Of Jesus Christ with two different object lessons.  he really enjoyed them.

It was a way good day.

Tuesday 7-19-11
We went over to the Kannards and did some service.  The Kannards dog was going crazy at this barn door, and wouldnt leave it alone.  So we went to go see what was over there, so elder Winward opened it and saw this squirrel in the corner so he wacked it with a metal rod and killed it haha, the dog tried to play fetch with it after.  It was pretty cool.  I have pictures and i remembered to bring my cable this time so hopefully i'll get some sent!  Anyways, we ate lunch with them as well.  They made us a way good mexican caserole thing! and gave us a gallon sized bag of cookies (like usual) and they are almost all gone.  we keep them in the truck because it keeps them hot so its like eating fresh cookies everytime you eat them :)

Then we contacted a potential guy.  he said he was too busy.  So we talked to a member he's friends with.  The member told us that he's never busy, he's on disability, so busy to him is like, not busy at all.  Anyways, he told us that this guy had take the missionary lessons before, he's just stuck in the decision making of getting baptized or not :( we thought we found a Golden one! but seems like he's not movin any time soon.  But the Member we went and spoke with had an awesome backyard, he went to.... mexico or something on his mission? and his backyard is like a nice little... i dont know what you would call it? But its got stone masonry all around and tables and chairs and coke machines and a bistro. haha its pretty sweet.  He also told us that his mission president was Richard G. Scott.  He got kind of choked up about it too.

We did some tractage.

Then we had a service appointment that was supposed to take the rest of the night... but it fell through so we left and ate dinner and did a little shopping... Speaking of shopping, MILK IS EXPENSIVE!!! My card is already out of mula! All i buy is Pasta Roni, Milk and cereal and i'm bone dry already! I'll have to make my way on Granola bars for the remainder of the month ;)

Wednesday 7-20-11
We had the chiropractor again!  he says since i am damaged he's just going to continue to see me on a weekly basis until i get transferred! :) My shoulder is practically healed.  Its just that it sticks out more that the other...

We did mormon.org and i copied a poem that Brother Moats wrote, its way good... i'd type it into this email but i dont have the copy with me.  maybe next week if i remember!

We went to go see brother Moats but he twas not home :( we were so ready to rope some dang llamas!

went to a referrals house and we could see them on the inside when we rang, but they were OBVIOUSLY too busy watching "Grown Ups". So they didnt come to the door :(

We came home, ate lunch and fell asleep.  it was one of those sleeps where you wake up and you feel terrible, i had a way bad head ache :(

But we went out and did some more work! Contacted the Cooper Family in Bear Valley, they are pretty awesome.  Really nice people.

Then we ate dinner at the Andersons.  Their little girls are so cute and hilarious.  They told their girls to give the missionaries hugs good bye when we left, it was quite touching, i felt really loved.  I think that family is going to try and set me up with the wife's sister or something... they act weird around me sometimes. Starin at me and stuff haha.  Winward left to go the bathroom and i was playin with the kids and the wife said to her husband "I think now is a good time to ask"  Oh jeeze, what're they gonna ask? Its driving me crazy cuz the husband wouldnt do it.  But maybe one day i will know.

Then we visited our Eternigators Wayne and Nita.  they were out back smokin and we sat and joined them, except we didnt smoke.... shocker! haha! They were doin pretty good i guess?  They want us to stop by more often i guess... we kind of dropped them so that the ward missionaries can take over... If people are going to investigate the church for 4 years... they probably wont be ready now... So its up to the ward to convert them... not us. But we still go see them because they are so cool!

Then we visited the Holloways, and shared with them a packet for missionary work!  They loved it!

Thursday 7-21-11
went and played some sports with the youth in the morning.  I guess we're not really supposed to... but if there are going to be SIX kids who could be potentials there, there was no way i was going to pass that up.  So we met them all and they are all way cool. They all like us and we just played sports to show them that we aint robots...  So hopefully we will get some teaching done soon!

Then we showered and got ready for district meeting LIGHTNING fast.

After district meeting we went to the Warings and started putting these missionary packets together.  Sister Waring about popped a blood vessel in her dome! She was going crazy! She was taking a itty bitty thing and turning it into the biggest thing EVER.  So that was... fun?

Then we came home and i had another bad head ache :( but we went out to dinner at the Mortensons.  That was good, we shared the first missionary packet with them and they loved it! So hopefully this stinkin thing works!

Now this is where the subject of my email "Heavenly Father Watches Over His Missionaries" comes into play!  So me and my companion were driving back towards our apartment. going up Golden Hills Blvd.  And we had planned to see the kills.  and then live just a little ways down the street.  So i told my companion to slow down in front of their house which was on the other side of the street.  And i said, we need to flip around and park on the other side.  And we had only slowed down for about 5 seconds, and then we pick back up, well right in front of us, there is a street on the left that connects with the one we are on.  This big red F-250 blows a stop sign going about... 50-60 mph.  Flies across the street and jumps of these pipes and flies into an apartment complex.  destroying the back end of a truck where people were sitting on the tailgate and taking out two huge pillars to a house and 4 mailboxes.  we pulled over and i ran over to the car and the lady inside was WASTED.  Her foot was still completely on the accelorator!  All these people came out and started cussing at her and stuff, she could have killed a ton of people but her response was "its ok i'm going away for a LOOOOOOOOONG time".  So we sat there and waited for the ambulances, the fire trucks, the news, the paper, the cops! We were on the news! and i cant find the video anywhere! I told a member and they recorded it and you can see me and my companion in plain sight all over then news haha i even told the reporter that me and my companion were the best two witnesses and that we'd do an interview but... she didnt take it. http://www.turnto23.com/mountain/17814494/detail.html The lady in this site is the lady i spoke to.  She did the scene... and i cant find the video. But its ok, because Brother moffatt showed up because he is CHP and he took statements from us and he told us that we were the only ones that saw the whole thing happen. But i saw it, because a member recorded it!  Anyways, the point to this story is, had we not slowed down in front of that house to see where we could park, and just kept going, i know for a fact that truck would have hit us. T boned. we could have died for all i know... and then later that night Sven sent me a text asking me if i'd be the one to perform the baptism... So God watches over us, that's all i gotta say.

Crazy!

Friday 7-22-11
We did our weekly planning at the church.  Then we ate lunch at the other elders apartment.

Went to the Thomas' house and he did some magic tricks also sucked us into a game of poker... couldnt help it haha at least we were connecting with our investigator ya know? We shared a really good spiritual message about the power of prayer.

Then we went back and ate dinner, i dont remember what we ate? Pasta Roni maybe?

Then we went to Alpine forest and saw Nikki Leishman's house, she just got married, and they are still in the process of fixing their house up, so we go up there from time to time to see if they need anything.  But her husband and his brother were there saddling up their horses getting ready to go for a ride, so we just spoke for a little bit.

Then we went back to the other elders apartment and gave them their area book because being the smart ones they are they left theirs in the car haha!  And that was it for that day...

Saturday 7-23-11
I forgot to write in my journal but lets see if i can remember what we did.

We ate Breakfast at the Leishmans, (mama leishman not Nikki).  She made french toast and it was delicious.

Then we went and helped some of the girls get their stuff packed up for girls camp.

Then we went to the Warings to pick up some missionary packets so that we could start distributing them through the day.

Then we went back out and helped the young women get more packed up for camp.  Did a little ropin with Randy. (I'm getting good)

Then went to the Bethke's for dinner.  Amy was home from BYUI and she had a friend and we all had a good time eating dinner and having a fire after.  Good times!

Sunday 7-24-11
We had our usual sunday churchness.

We got a referral from a lady who is moving in two days :(  She's the Kannards daughter and she's really nice.  She gave me a hug in church, which was weird.  but she said that her parents adore me for going to help them :( that made me sad thinking i might leave these people soon.

Then we went to dinner at the Stanley's and outside in their backyard you can see the andersons, and Sam Anderson was out in his backyard working and he didnt have a shirt on, and he didnt come to church.  His whole family was out in the yard in swim suits soaking up the sun.  So we drove up and stopped in his drive way and said "SICK! PUT A SHIRT ON NOBODY WANTS TO SEE THAT!" and his wife just sat there and laughed at him! hahahaha! It was so funny.

Then we went to a YSA Activity and had some games and a lesson and dessert.

and that was pretty much it.

I hope you all enjoyed this email.  I know i sure enjoyed typing it... not.  Anyways i cant wait to see yall.  Its crazy how fast time is flyin.  Write me letters please!  And emails!

love

Elder Crapo
