7/25/11 Heavenly Father Watches Over His Missionaries

Hello Family & Friends!

So this was a pretty intense week! Had a few cool things happen and by the sound of all the letters i didnt get, it sounds like not a whole lot happened at home ;) but the few emails i got were good! so thank you very much for those!  Well here's my week!

Monday 7-18-11
We had Monday Funday at 8 AM! Yes! Back to the good old days :D  It was ok, not a whole bunch of people showed up but we still had fun.  Our investigator who we are teaching right now showed up.  He's such a cool guy.  His name is Sven and he's getting baptized on the 30th! YES!!!

For the most part, this P-day we spent it in the other Elders Apartment, hanging out, doing laundry, playin games, writing letters.  All that good jazz...

We had an awesome dinner with the Johnson family.  They had a girl there who wasnt a member which is way awesome.  We have 3 Potentials and they are all young women... :/  They all went to girls came this week too so hopefully they all come back ready to learn more about the GOSPEL!  But anyways, the Johnsons thought i was going to be the one to be transfered, so when i got there they had made me a tie, bow tie, and a shirt hanky thing... all out of duct tape.  Its pretty sweet.  They are awesome! i'm going to miss that family a lot.  While we were there we sat around a fire at ate hot dogs and made shmoze.

Then we went to the De Silvas house where we taught Sven.  That was way fun because since he knows everything we did the Gospel Of Jesus Christ with two different object lessons.  he really enjoyed them.

It was a way good day.

Tuesday 7-19-11
We went over to the Kannards and did some service.  The Kannards dog was going crazy at this barn door, and wouldnt leave it alone.  So we went to go see what was over there, so elder Winward opened it and saw this squirrel in the corner so he wacked it with a metal rod and killed it haha, the dog tried to play fetch with it after.  It was pretty cool.  I have pictures and i remembered to bring my cable this time so hopefully i'll get some sent!  Anyways, we ate lunch with them as well.  They made us a way good mexican caserole thing! and gave us a gallon sized bag of cookies (like usual) and they are almost all gone.  we keep them in the truck because it keeps them hot so its like eating fresh cookies everytime you eat them :)

Then we contacted a potential guy.  he said he was too busy.  So we talked to a member he's friends with.  The member told us that he's never busy, he's on disability, so busy to him is like, not busy at all.  Anyways, he told us that this guy had take the missionary lessons before, he's just stuck in the decision making of getting baptized or not :( we thought we found a Golden one! but seems like he's not movin any time soon.  But the Member we went and spoke with had an awesome backyard, he went to.... mexico or something on his mission? and his backyard is like a nice little... i dont know what you would call it? But its got stone masonry all around and tables and chairs and coke machines and a bistro. haha its pretty sweet.  He also told us that his mission president was Richard G. Scott.  He got kind of choked up about it too.

We did some tractage.

Then we had a service appointment that was supposed to take the rest of the night... but it fell through so we left and ate dinner and did a little shopping... Speaking of shopping, MILK IS EXPENSIVE!!! My card is already out of mula! All i buy is Pasta Roni, Milk and cereal and i'm bone dry already! I'll have to make my way on Granola bars for the remainder of the month ;)

Wednesday 7-20-11
We had the chiropractor again!  he says since i am damaged he's just going to continue to see me on a weekly basis until i get transferred! :) My shoulder is practically healed.  Its just that it sticks out more that the other...

We did mormon.org and i copied a poem that Brother Moats wrote, its way good... i'd type it into this email but i dont have the copy with me.  maybe next week if i remember!

We went to go see brother Moats but he twas not home :( we were so ready to rope some dang llamas!

went to a referrals house and we could see them on the inside when we rang, but they were OBVIOUSLY too busy watching "Grown Ups". So they didnt come to the door :(

We came home, ate lunch and fell asleep.  it was one of those sleeps where you wake up and you feel terrible, i had a way bad head ache :(

But we went out and did some more work! Contacted the Cooper Family in Bear Valley, they are pretty awesome.  Really nice people.

Then we ate dinner at the Andersons.  Their little girls are so cute and hilarious.  They told their girls to give the missionaries hugs good bye when we left, it was quite touching, i felt really loved.  I think that family is going to try and set me up with the wife's sister or something... they act weird around me sometimes. Starin at me and stuff haha.  Winward left to go the bathroom and i was playin with the kids and the wife said to her husband "I think now is a good time to ask"  Oh jeeze, what're they gonna ask? Its driving me crazy cuz the husband wouldnt do it.  But maybe one day i will know.

Then we visited our Eternigators Wayne and Nita.  they were out back smokin and we sat and joined them, except we didnt smoke.... shocker! haha! They were doin pretty good i guess?  They want us to stop by more often i guess... we kind of dropped them so that the ward missionaries can take over... If people are going to investigate the church for 4 years... they probably wont be ready now... So its up to the ward to convert them... not us. But we still go see them because they are so cool!

Then we visited the Holloways, and shared with them a packet for missionary work!  They loved it!

Thursday 7-21-11
went and played some sports with the youth in the morning.  I guess we're not really supposed to... but if there are going to be SIX kids who could be potentials there, there was no way i was going to pass that up.  So we met them all and they are all way cool. They all like us and we just played sports to show them that we aint robots...  So hopefully we will get some teaching done soon!

Then we showered and got ready for district meeting LIGHTNING fast.

After district meeting we went to the Warings and started putting these missionary packets together.  Sister Waring about popped a blood vessel in her dome! She was going crazy! She was taking a itty bitty thing and turning it into the biggest thing EVER.  So that was... fun?

Then we came home and i had another bad head ache :( but we went out to dinner at the Mortensons.  That was good, we shared the first missionary packet with them and they loved it! So hopefully this stinkin thing works!

Now this is where the subject of my email "Heavenly Father Watches Over His Missionaries" comes into play!  So me and my companion were driving back towards our apartment. going up Golden Hills Blvd.  And we had planned to see the kills.  and then live just a little ways down the street.  So i told my companion to slow down in front of their house which was on the other side of the street.  And i said, we need to flip around and park on the other side.  And we had only slowed down for about 5 seconds, and then we pick back up, well right in front of us, there is a street on the left that connects with the one we are on.  This big red F-250 blows a stop sign going about... 50-60 mph.  Flies across the street and jumps of these pipes and flies into an apartment complex.  destroying the back end of a truck where people were sitting on the tailgate and taking out two huge pillars to a house and 4 mailboxes.  we pulled over and i ran over to the car and the lady inside was WASTED.  Her foot was still completely on the accelorator!  All these people came out and started cussing at her and stuff, she could have killed a ton of people but her response was "its ok i'm going away for a LOOOOOOOOONG time".  So we sat there and waited for the ambulances, the fire trucks, the news, the paper, the cops! We were on the news! and i cant find the video anywhere! I told a member and they recorded it and you can see me and my companion in plain sight all over then news haha i even told the reporter that me and my companion were the best two witnesses and that we'd do an interview but... she didnt take it. http://www.turnto23.com/mountain/17814494/detail.html The lady in this site is the lady i spoke to.  She did the scene... and i cant find the video. But its ok, because Brother moffatt showed up because he is CHP and he took statements from us and he told us that we were the only ones that saw the whole thing happen. But i saw it, because a member recorded it!  Anyways, the point to this story is, had we not slowed down in front of that house to see where we could park, and just kept going, i know for a fact that truck would have hit us. T boned. we could have died for all i know... and then later that night Sven sent me a text asking me if i'd be the one to perform the baptism... So God watches over us, that's all i gotta say.

Crazy!

Friday 7-22-11
We did our weekly planning at the church.  Then we ate lunch at the other elders apartment.

Went to the Thomas' house and he did some magic tricks also sucked us into a game of poker... couldnt help it haha at least we were connecting with our investigator ya know? We shared a really good spiritual message about the power of prayer.

Then we went back and ate dinner, i dont remember what we ate? Pasta Roni maybe?

Then we went to Alpine forest and saw Nikki Leishman's house, she just got married, and they are still in the process of fixing their house up, so we go up there from time to time to see if they need anything.  But her husband and his brother were there saddling up their horses getting ready to go for a ride, so we just spoke for a little bit.

Then we went back to the other elders apartment and gave them their area book because being the smart ones they are they left theirs in the car haha!  And that was it for that day...

Saturday 7-23-11
I forgot to write in my journal but lets see if i can remember what we did.

We ate Breakfast at the Leishmans, (mama leishman not Nikki).  She made french toast and it was delicious.

Then we went and helped some of the girls get their stuff packed up for girls camp.

Then we went to the Warings to pick up some missionary packets so that we could start distributing them through the day.

Then we went back out and helped the young women get more packed up for camp.  Did a little ropin with Randy. (I'm getting good)

Then went to the Bethke's for dinner.  Amy was home from BYUI and she had a friend and we all had a good time eating dinner and having a fire after.  Good times!

Sunday 7-24-11
We had our usual sunday churchness.

We got a referral from a lady who is moving in two days :(  She's the Kannards daughter and she's really nice.  She gave me a hug in church, which was weird.  but she said that her parents adore me for going to help them :( that made me sad thinking i might leave these people soon.

Then we went to dinner at the Stanley's and outside in their backyard you can see the andersons, and Sam Anderson was out in his backyard working and he didnt have a shirt on, and he didnt come to church.  His whole family was out in the yard in swim suits soaking up the sun.  So we drove up and stopped in his drive way and said "SICK! PUT A SHIRT ON NOBODY WANTS TO SEE THAT!" and his wife just sat there and laughed at him! hahahaha! It was so funny.

Then we went to a YSA Activity and had some games and a lesson and dessert.

and that was pretty much it.

I hope you all enjoyed this email.  I know i sure enjoyed typing it... not.  Anyways i cant wait to see yall.  Its crazy how fast time is flyin.  Write me letters please!  And emails!

love

New Comp!

Date: Mon, 18 Jul 2011 12:48:31 -0700
From: samuel.crapo@myldsmail.net

Hello Everyboday!

Time For email time! Thanks to those that sent me emails and letters.  Sorry if i dont write you back, i only get a limited time on the computer... :(  But i try to drop a quick line when i can!  But here is my week!

Monday 7-11-11
We had transfer calls! Woo Hoo!  They called and asked me to stay in Tehachapi! YES! I love it here!  Elder Summers got transferred to Camarillo!  So now i'm with Elder Winward! This guy is awesome!

Anyways, besides that not much else happened on monday... some YSA showed up but there were only a few people and we didnt do anything because Elder Summers and Snarr wanted to pack.

So after P-day we went out, saw ANOTHER fire and went over to see if we could help again. I guess this one was a little more crazy, in between houses and stuff, they had helicoptors and airplanes dropping water and all sorts of stuff!

Then we said goodbye to the Bennetts and the Bethke's!

No Mail :( but it figured because i knew i'd get mail from the Mission office the next day :D

Tuesday 7-12-11
Woke up at 5! :(  You know me! I love the morning....

Drove to Ventura with Brother Miller.  That was pretty fun. I kinda fell asleep so i didnt know what was going on, but hey, we got there right?

I saw Elder Haynie down there! It was awesome! I miss that guy so much!

Then i got my new comp, he's pretty dang awesome! Elder Winward.  He's from Mesa, Arizona.  He played tons of sports in high school and got a full ride scholarship to a school in Arizona to play football but he turned it down to go on his mission and they didnt hold it for him.  Kid is awesome!

Then we came back, did a little shopping and unpacked everything.

Then we went to the Laynes for dinner, that was good because sister Layne is the Coolest! He got to have a game of Ping Pong with her!

Then we came back and took the other Elders Shoppings.  Elder Carrera is now with Elder Nyland.  Elder Nyland came out the same time as me but we were in different districts in the MTC so i didnt know him.  They are both kind of... nerdy.  But hey at least Carrera is happy now.  He goes home next month!

Then we did some planning for the next day and did some workin out and went to bed!

Its weird because even though the transfer before was really rough and i was struggling, i still get the stomach ache... i think its just because of the change.  I have to start all over with Elder Winward.  Kind of take control of everything again...  But the stomach aches are gone now, before when i got put with Elder Summers the Stomach ache lasted about 2 weeks! Worste two weeks ever!

Wednesday 7-13-11
Had the Chiropractor! It was great!  He told me that i need to go see a Nerologist, because i have something wrong with my arm, and if i lift it, it goes numb.  So he told me to do that... Something is wrong with my nerves i guess?

We went and watched some MORMON.ORG!!!!!    ...boring

Then we went tracting for about 2 hours.  That was pretty sweet.  We found one guy, as soon as we knocked on his door he opened the door and held a book up, and all i could see was "Holy Bible" then i kept reading "Book of mormon, Doctrine & covenants, Pearl Of Great Price" and i was like YES! FINALLY! and he said that a neighbor in the Golden Hills ward gave it to him, he's been really interested and has been reading for quite some time.  His exact words were actually, "I've been reading this for a while now and i really like i'm just not mormon yet" haha! YES! We are going to try and go back and teach him so that he can be Baptized.

Before we went tracting we had dropped off the truck, the brakes were really bad on them... really squeeky! So we had to go get new brake pads.  As we were walking back to the tire store, we saw another fire! But i think this one got a house cuz it was a ton of black smoke!

We stopped at our apartment, ate some grub, took a snooze! (...which is probably what you're doing right now because this letter is so boring)

Then we went to the store and bought some last minute stuff.

Then we ate with the Warings for dinner.... Elder Winward agrees with me on them... they are a bit.... odd.

Then we came back in and worked on updating both Area books...

Thursday 7-14-11
We went to the church and made some CD's for the car ride down  to bakersfield.  We didnt have any music, but Elder Winward had some on some jump drives so we burnt them onto some CD's

Then we went to Bakersfield for district meeting.  I had to conduct the "Get to know you" it was pretty sweet... There are a few more new elders, and i took pictures but i totally forgot to bring my cord to plug them into the computer so maybe next week if you write me lots of letters....  But we got a black missionary from Africa, he's so cool!  We also got Portable DVD players! How weird is that? We get to use them during study time.  We can watch any church approved movie... i can see this going really bad.  Some retard missionary is either going to ask someone to send him stuff or just going to buy it himself..... Who knows, we'll see.  I like the good old fashioned study better anyways.

We then ordered a HUGE PIZZA! HUGE!!!! I took pictures!  And we took it back to the other elders apartment and ate it there.  Elder Jarvies told us some way funny stories.  About how he got sick last week and they were out tracting and had to go #2 really bad, like way bad! haha and he didnt make it.... It was so funny!

Then we went back to Tehachapi and got mail.  I got that Army stuff mum sent which was way cool.  I guess you guys want me going into the army eh?  I think i might... i just dont know what i'd do? I kinda want to save people instead of kill people, but i dont want to go into the medical field... who knows what i'll do? We'll see when i get home.

We went to dinner at the Holloways! They are so cool!

Friday 7-15-11
I forgot to write in my journal for this day... i'll have to try and remember what happened.

We did Weekly planning which went pretty quick.

Then we went to "Grandmas" house and did a whole bunch of service for her.  Cutting down branches off a tree and stuff.

Then we went to the Kings house and did some service for them, that was really cool to go there and do service, John and i were trying to figure out the knot that dad taught me to tie when we would bundle corn stalks.... i could not remember it was driving me NUTS! So dad needs to mail me back ASAP to tell me how to do it!

Then we had dinner, we didnt have an apointment, so we just ate a pizza that grandma gave us, it was pretty tasty.

Then we went out and contacted a boat load of people. Took some AWESOME PICTURES! Too bad i'm a retard and forgot my cord! Gah!

Saturday 7-16-11
Saturday morning we went to the Leishman's house! She made Crepes! They were pretty good. Then we did some service for them.

Then we went with the Tehachapi elders and did some roofing with them.  That was pretty sweet, really dirty, but awesome and fun.  We'll be going back tomorrow to help them put up the new shingles.

Then we ate at the Grease pit called Frosty King...

Went out to Bear Valley and contacted some peeps, not a whole bunch of people were home :(  So we did some driving up on the roads that went along the mountain sides, took some MORE PICTURES!

Then we went to the Bethkes and had dinner with them, had a big fire and called it a night.

Sunday 7-17-11
This was a LONG day...

We had to go the the Golden Hills ward PEC meeting. Which stunk because we had to be up at 5AM to get ready, so we were at church for 9 HOURS!!!! i felt like an employed worker... not getting paid.  Anyways we had to because we had to fix some things in the Golden Hills ward.  We have been going through the Directory, contacting everybody! and there are about 25 Do not contacts... that is ridiculous!  NOBODY has home teachers! and the bishop got offended that we brought it to his attention, i think i got offended because we were telling him, basically, how crappy of a job he's doing when there was a room full of other men.  So he was making up all sorts of excuses about the DNC people, like "well this guy moved" ok... GET RID OF HIS RECORDS THEN!!! it was driving me nuts... gave me a head ache.... so i started my day off with a head ache and still had 8 hours to go.  So it was a long stinkin day.

We didnt have a dinner set so we called the Bennetts and they had us over.  After dinner we tied the calf dummy.. That was way fun.  I'm gettin good, i'll be a cowboy yet!

Anyways, that was my week pretty much.  I'm super stoked with this transfer and loving the new comp.  I hit my 5 month mark 2 days ago... i'm almost 1/4 done with my mission... how nuts is that?  Its going to be crazy.  Anyways, i miss you all very much.  And love ya! Hope you are all safe! Spread the gospel.

Love

Elder Crapo

P.S. i still havent received any pictures yet from life before the mission. I want Family pictures, friends pictures... all pictures on my facebook and stuff! I regret not bringing any with me so send me some yeah?

Subject: Transfers
From: samuel.crapo@myldsmail.net

Hello Family and Friends!

So today is transfer day, and we just got our call about.... an hour ago.. Looks like i'm stayin in Tehach! WOO HOO! I love it here.  My companion Elder Summers is getting transfered to Camario!  I will be getting my new companion tomorrow and his name is Elder Winward, and from what i hear, he's an awesome guy.  Its gonna be another change, but i think it will be a lot easier now that i know how to lead this area even though i'll still be Junior comp :( I dont like being JR. haha oh well!  But it's gonna be a nice change, i've grown to understand Elder Summers, it was rough in the begining but it got a lot better.  But definitely good for a change.

So thats the big new for today, but this week... OH MAN!!! BIG NEWS! Just wait and see!

Monday 7-4-11
So I didnt get any sleep the night before because it was SO DANG HOT!!!! some nights it gets so hot.  So i kept getting my hair all wet and that cooled me down a bit, but then it just dried really fast.

We accidently slept in a little, it was nice though because i hadnt slept well anyways, and it was P-day so it wasnt really a big deal... dont judge me

Then i got my stuff all packed and as i went out to the truck it was funny i walked down and had just regular gym clothes on and i forgot to put on my tag, well this lady was sitting in the back of a car and started talking to me.  She blabbed on about how my army bag (with all my laundry in it) was cool.  and i looked in the car and see all these little magazines in little bins.... Watchtowers... Yep, they were J dubs!  But she was really nice, and she was like "Do you ever read the bible?" and i was like "Well ya! All the Time!" haha and she gave me some watchtowers and then she asked me what my name was, and i said "Elder Crapo" and she was like "Wow, that's a very interesting name, what nationallity is it?" and i said "Its from here, from Utah" and then i think it clicked... and they got in the car and drove away! haha! so funny. Silly Jehovah witnesses.

Then we went to the church and did emails and did some MONDAY FUNDAY! YAY

Then we did shopping, then we did nothing, then we went to the church for the 4th of july BBQ, that was way fun, but we only got to stay until 8 :( No fire works :( No party. So i just came in and worked out until ten, it was my favorite holiday and i was inside :( We better have a HUGE party when i get home! haha

Tuesday 7-5-11
Started our day doing Mormon.org and there was a pretty sweet video about a guy in the army, who got deployed and lost his foot.

We went tracting and it was WAY HOT, no takers either :( If only they knew!

Then we went out and got some Quiznoz

And we came in to eat and i was like "Ya know elder summers, i really miss thunder storms and lightning" And then like 15 seconds later 'KABOOM! Thunder! it was so nuts! it started raining and lightning! Turned into a way good day! I love those storms. Smells so good!

So then we went and did some contacting in the rain it was so nice, nice and cool.  We went to Alpine Forest and had to put on the Four Wheel Drive! Woo hoo! Got the truck all dirty.

Then we went to brother moffats and had a BBQ, it was way good, really hot because the sun came back out and made everything humid, but it was a way good bbq.  After we ate, we went out to his dog's gate and set up an electric fence.  And to test it, ya gotta touch it,  so elder summers touched it and got zapped so did brother moffat, but for some reason everytime i touched it, it didnt hurt, i held onto the wire even and rubbed my hand and arm all over it... nothing... the dog even got zapped and i didnt get hurt at all... i think somethings wrong with me...?

Wednesday 7-6-11
We went to bakes and met the new president and his family... that was pretty good.

then we went to lunch at A&W... its just not as good as utah though for some reason?

Then we had district meeting.

On our way back we went to 7/11 and they had PITCH BLACK!!! WOO HOO i bought 4 of them!

Then we went to tehachapi and went to the tire store to get a full service on our truck.

Ate dinner with the Mauldin family

and for some reason my eye hurt all day... i dont know why? but i thought i was gettting pink eye? But it went away after a few days.

Thursday 7-7-11
So when i was studying in the morning i was using elder summers book he has called "Missionary Pal, Reference Guide For Missionaris and teachers, By Keith Marston"  and we looked it up at a members house to see how much it was and it was $80! And its just a little book, if you guys wanna look it up for me and see if you can find a cheap version on amazon or something, that would be sweet!

anyways we went over to the bennetts and baptized sister Bennetts car. (washed) then we had a lesson with a guy named Sven.  Now this is where the week got WAY COOL.  So this guy, he's a 22 year old guy who is friends with a member, and me and elder pulham went over to their house a while back and he was there, and he got really quiet and just listened to us and stuff.  Well later that night we got a text from the member saying that Sven had a whole bunch of questions about the Mormons, so she gave him a Book of mormon.  So then we finally met with him 5 weeks later... he has read to Heleman, he's read the entire Gospel Principles book, and we set him with a date to be baptized on July 30th! He wanted sooner too.  He says he loves the gospel and that he really wants to be a member.  When someone starts saying this kind of stuff, thats when missionaries get giddy and want to jump for joy and scream like a girl haha it was WAY cool.

Then we went to the Jacobsons and had dinner.  I made their kids laugh so hard that food was flying out of their mouths all over the table! haha then they all left to go see the Green Lanturn :( i was jealous.

Friday 7-8-11
I got a package from Christine Brimhall! Yes! She is so awesome! Then we went to the post office and sent some things.

Did a little weekly planning, went to lunch, visited the Salyers family, visited Joe Moynagh, Visited the Kernazitskas, Ate dinner at the Rowley's and then we FOUGHT A FIRE!!!

It was so cool we came in from bear valley and on our way, we saw smoke in golden hills so we drove over, and started taking pictures but then i was like, "Wait, we're eagle scouts! Lets go help!" so we did, we fought a HUGE fire on the side of a hill, we had shovels and hoses and stuff, and got pretty much most of it out before the fire department got there. I'll send Pictures!

Saturday 7-9-11
We helped brother williams with some junk in his yard.  We loaded it in a trailer and dropped it off at the dump. They fed us lunch and bought a ton of Del Taco! and gave us a ton to take home, i'm all del taco'd out.

Then we came home and showered, no mail :( i was sad, i thought i would get my package! Oh well, i'll get it tomorrow when we got to transfer meeting.

Then we went out and contacted as many people that we could, and came in for dinner around 6.

Then we stopped at the Caswells, and i'd never been there before, but we stopped by, and you should see this house! Its amazing!  There are Antlers, and trophis, and pictures, and weapons and old fashioned shadow boxes, and the coolest stuff you've ever seen.  Two huge garages that can hold those huge motor homes.  And they even have like their own apartments above the garages! it was sooooo coool! I told them i was going to go back to their house after my mission haha

Also, when i get back, i'm probably gonna get a motorcycle, for the road, like i've been saying.  but for the camping, i will be getting a 250 or 450R dirt bike... just sayin...

Sunday 7-10-11
Church was good, Sven showed up and loved it! i'm so stoked for him!  Then we went to dinner and visited with the Kings. The Kings are so awesome, she's fixing another pair of my pants! :D

Thats pretty much it.  I miss yall! I'll see you soon! i've been out almost 5 months! crazy huh?

Miss ya Love ya

New Mission President

Hello everybody!

Thanks everyone for the emails and if you wrote me a letter thank you
for that as well :D Those are always goooooooooood... This week has
been good. And we got a new mission president... So let me tell you
ALLLLL about my week.
 Monday 6-27-11
I didnt write anything for this day... i think in my last email i let
you know everything.... So... SKIP
 Tuesday 6-28-11
We went and helped a new family move into their house. It was pretty
fun. they had a HUGE piano and a HUGE wardrobe... so it was pretty
heavy lifting but it was no match to my missionary madness.

Then we went to the McHenry's and chatted with brother mcHenry while
sister mchenry picked up the lady we were teaching. I have some
pictures of brother mchenry's garage, he's got some funny stuff, but
i'll post them another time... i've got a dumpy computer. But we ate
lunch with the mchenry's and the lady we were going to teach, then we
taught a lesson, well we tried, but the lady kept falling asleep,
like, her face went into her pasta salad, oh man, you know me, i
couldnt keep the laughs in.... She just cant afford her meds and so
she has some sleeping problems... poor lady. and after that we went to
her house and did some service, it was bad, i made a dustdevil with
the lawn mower, had dirt in every crevise!

Then we went to another investigators house and did A TON of weed
wacking! TONS! it kind of stunk, but it was ok because they really
appreciated it.

Then we ate dinner with the Stewart family. That was pretty fun.

Then we dug a trench for sister bethke. she wants to put gopher wire
into the ground so they cant get to her grass. So we dug some of it
for her.

I was SO tired when i got home. The Shower was pure mud coming off my
body hahaha NASTY!
 Wednesday 6-29-11
I woke up and made a big ol' list of people to go see for the day.

Ate a bowl of cereal and an omelete. I dont know why i'm getting so
hungry in the mornings? I used to never eat breakfast. I feel like a
fatty! I came out weighing 155 and now i weigh almost 180! its so
cool! And Logan sent me a picture of him, THAT KID IS SKINNY!!! its so
funny.

Then we went out and contacted TONS of people.

Introduced a good finding idea to brother waring, and now that is under way.

As we contacted we found 25 DNC's! That's crazy! (do not contact)

We finally got our fans, it is a huge help, some nights.

I got the tie and card from mother, thank you very much, i dont have a
red tie so it made my day :D
 Thursday 6-30-11
We had district meeting, it was pretty funny because we had an object
lesson with cool aid and everyone got a drink, but some were made with
sugar and some were made with salt, haha a kid spat his cool aid all
over the relief society room because it was so gross.

We then ate lunch at Crap in a box, i dont like that place.

Then i got to go on exchanges with the District Leader. I think it
went really well. First time i havent been bothered by my companion
in months! :D and i told him the whole situation and he had no idea
what was going on and i told him my thoughts so hopefully this
transfer will bring lots of change :D

Throuout the day we did all kinds of stuff. Contacted people, helped
brother Moffatt take his snug top off his truck.

Then we ate dinner with some members and the ward missionaries, they
invited a lady who is not active and we asked her to be baptized, she
said yes haha it was nuts. So it was just a soft set, but the next
time we see her we are going to set her with a date! BOO YA!

Then we came home and the new president called, said he wanted to talk
to my companion and i had to tell him he was in bakersfield so he
called him. But the guy sounds cool, just a little... foreign haha.
But it was a really good day.
 Friday 7-1-11
Had a good morning chatting with elder Mecham

Drove to arvin to get my companion back

My comp wasnt feeling well... i guess he had thrown up earlier?

We went back to drop off his stuff and i got mail from a lady that
doesnt know me and i dont know her, but she says she lived in the
ventura area and now lives in american fork. And it was a strange
letter but maybe she read my blog? Noticed i wasnt getting much mail
and took pity? haha

Then we went to the church and did some weekly planning. The Jacobson
kids saw our car and came to talk to us. They also wrote all over our
windows... that happens a lot out here. So we went to the car wash and
fixed all that.

Then we went to the Wagners and helped them out with some service,
taking some green waste to the dump and what not.

We kept a whole bunch of his wood to burn at the bethkes the next night.

So we came back in and ate dinner then went to the Salyers home to
continue the Recent Convert lessons. And it went well, we got their
hometeacher to come too.

Then we stopped off at the bethkes and dropped off the wood.

I had to buy another gallon of milk too. I drink like a gallon in 4
days... haha i dont know why? But its good! And Cold!

My bed is all messed up, the box spring mattress has broke, like every
peice of wood to hold my bed up has snapped, but i finally found a way
to fix it, so i guess its ok now.

Saturday 7-2-11
Sister Leishman had to cancel breakfast

But i got mail from WAWA!!! i really enjoyed the cookies and the
letters, it was hard to read sarah's letter because it was in NEON
PINK! haha but thank you very much!  Then we went to brother Kannards to help with service, he also fed us
lunch. The service was way hard, he cut down a huge rotted tree and
we had to haul the wood to the top of his hill and split it. Drained
my energy because it was way hot too. Never sweated so much in my
life. I also am proud to say that my trainer trained me well, i can
rope really well now. i roped the kannards dog while it was running at
mach 10! haha!

Then we came in and showered and then went to brother warings and
correlated with him.

Then went and took some pictures on skyline and then headed to the
thomas' where we watched some mormon movies. Then they took us to the
country club which was way nice, but still.... too fancy for me, but
right out the window is the community pool and we saw so many members
out there... some i didnt want to see in their swimming suits, but
hey, now i got black mail ;)

Then we changed and went back to the bethkes and helped them finish
the trench, working out there with the misquitos was no good, i was
COVERED in mosquito bites! its stunk! i looked like the elephant man
hahahaha i took a picture.

And there are tons of people around for the 4th of july.. i'm so jealous
 Sunday 7-3-11
Not a whole lot happened, just had lots of church then went to break
the fast with the YSA and then contacted people not a whole lot....

Anyways that's my week. I'll let you know how this week goes. Next
monday should bring "Change" haha but i'll let ya know. Thank you so
much for all the emails and support. Sorry if this letter is short, i
dont have much time! Love you all very much and i miss ya!

President is gone

Date: Mon, 27 Jun 2011 12:22:25 -0700
Subject: President is gone.
From: samuel.crapo@myldsmail.net

Dear Family & Friends!

This week has flown by so fast.. Its been a long and rought transfer... but this week in particular has gone by fast.  Thank you so much for the emails.  If its not letters in the mailbox then its plenty of emails on the computer... so i guess i can deal with that.  I sent a little apistle to some of you so you can write me letters.  Hopefully it works ;) i'm crossing my fingers.  So Simon won an IPad huh? What a punk! He doesnt deserve that! Just send it to me ;) JK he's been wanting something like that for a while some congrats! That's way sick!  So Scotts going to plan on being a Ranger huh? That is way cool!  Those guys is crazy!  I'm still interested in joining something when i get home but that is still a long long ways away.  We will see though.  As for mothers questions... My shoulder is feeling loads better.  The bump is going down as i do the excersizes that the Dr. Gave me and it doesnt give me too much grief..  Ever since i got that stinger in football, it goes numb sometimes, like shoots down my arm when i lift it up... its always been like that ever since i got that stinger, and the doctor is correcting that too... haha, looks like i brought some things with me for him to fix... plus it gives me a reason to go once a week instead of every other week. Oh and we do not have any AC in the Apartment, so it gets HOT at night! WAY hot haha all the windows are open and we only have one little rotating fan to keep us cool. We're gonna get some more fans from brother moffatt here soon, he stopped by while he was on duty the other night and said our apartment was like a sauna!
As for my comp... i havent really gotten him yet... he wants to be a pilot and it now makes sense... he's kind of cocky and a pilot or quarterback are solo guys, they want all the glory, and it started to click... thats why i'm not getting along with him.  I just thought he had a whole bunch of issuse.... which he does... but the fact that he's cocky too is terrible, i would just let him get away with it because i felt bad he was having such a hard time, but no, i couldnt handle it, i've been shutting him down left, right, and center haha he needs to get rid of that big head.  Making him senior comp wasnt a good idea... we do everything his way now... But when we had presidents farewell this week he whispered in my ear, "two weeks (which is transfers) will bring change. Hang in there" So woo hoo! Something will change this transfer! I dont care if my comp goes or if i go... but whatever happens, change is good.  So in two weeks my letters should be getting better :D

Anyways i guess i will tell you what happened in my week!

Monday 6-20-11
There was no monday funday... but it was still good i guess? We got a ton of things done...

We did a lot of shopping and cleaning and reading and writing and all that jazz.

I was looking everywhere for Pitch Black Mountain Dew! MY FAVORITE! Which they got rid of a long time ago... and they brought it back! But i couldnt find it :( Simon! Hook me up with a 12 pack dog! :D

Then we had dinner with the Stanley family and that was cool.  She works up at woodward! Its a school too! And the whole area (Gym, Skating area, etc.) Is the kids playground! ITS NUTS! She's met tons of pro boarders and bikers.  The only one i cared to know if she met was Rob Derdyk! She met him! She said if she sees him again she'll let us know. They just show up for no reason! And she is a teacher at the school and one of her students is Tony Hawks son! NUTS!!!

Then we went over to the Handy's House so that their friends could bring you that package! haha I cant believe he called dad! I was standing right there as he was talking to him, it was funny! my dad was on the other line! That guy was way cool, i hope you got to meet them.

Then the Kings called and told me that my pants were finished, Michelle King being an AMAZING Seemstress hooked me up big time.  I ruined the pockets on my suit pants and she said it was SUPER hard to fix but she did it! They are so bomb!

Then i had an awesome work out that night! I'm getting bigger... i've gained about 25 lbs.  and almost 2 inches on my biceps! haha! So its cool! Stayin in shape :D I'm not gonna be a fatty!

Tuesday 6-21-11
We went and watched mormon.org in the morning.

Then went and did some contacting... but like usual... no one was home :(

Then we walked back to our apartment! AND IT WAS HOT!!! I Was sweating my... buns off! IT was so hot!  We had to like change and stuff when we got in.

Then we met with Brother Dixon, i told you about him last week, he's a really cool guy.  I really hope we can get him to the temple! Super awesome guy!

Then we met with a guy Named Brother Van Ornum, he was way cool too, he gave us a lot of info on people we had been looking for, for a long time.

Then we went looking for more people... like usual!

Ate at the Wagners house.  Had Rattotoulle! It was pretty tasty.. and i know i spelled it wrong.  but its just like Zuccini Goulosh!  And he has a pretty cool story, he went on his mission in italy and then lived there and went to school there for a few years after.  He has taught his BRILLIANT son how to speak italian and english, i dont get how kids can do that! Brilliant kid though.  Way fun family..

Wednesday 6-22-11
Had the Chiropractor in the morning, he is going to fix my arm, like i said.

Then we went to bear valley and tried contacting people... but like always... you know how that goes... no one is ever home.

Then we went to the Kannards and ate lunch and did a bunch of service on their ranch! PHEW it was hot.  Pullin weeds :( I dont miss it. haha  His daughter made us a whole bunch of food while we worked and we took it all home.  And i guess when we were out working, our clothes were laying on their couch and she snuck a refferral into my shirt pocket, i didnt find it until we got home, too bad the refferall was in Cali City :( But it was way cool of her to do that! She said she has another one for us though! WOO HOO!

We went home and showered and elder Summers got a slip for a package. so we went and got that and it had a whole bunch of junk for the fourth of july.  Hey so just so you know, i dont want candy haha maybe ties, even big old nasty pollyester ties from the DI.  I'd like that... or money, money is good too.  But as for candy...  i dont eat it... i give it to kids or i throw it out... sorry, not that i dont like candy, but i'm trying to watch my girlish figure ya know? haha

Then we went back to bear valley and had dinner with the Laynes.  They are still one of my favorite families! They need to write a book on their lives because they have had the BEST Stories ever!  I had really bad allergies though :( Made my head hurt real bad, it still hurts for some reason.... like it feels conpressed! Maybe i have Valley Fever? who knows?

Then we visited the Coopers, and they are way cool, their grandaughter was at their house and said she was from Sandy! Why are there all these connections to Sandy? Its crazy!

Came home and felt really sick with allergies! WAY SICK.  Took some medecine and went to bed, it was a bad night for me :( Plus it was SOOOOO HOT. Couldnt sleep very well which made the next day not so good.  You know me when i dont get my sleep! (GRUMPY BUM)

Thursday 6-23-11
We had district meeting in bakersfield... couldnt find the mountain dew there either! :(  but the meeting went well and we stayed there most of the day because thats when we had the departure meeting with the mission president.

Went back home and ate dinner wtih the nichols.  They are really cool.  The husband is interesting, he flies the Virgin Galactic space ship... i guess that is super exciting... at least my companion thinks so, he just about pooped his pants when he found that out.  But they are really cool. Awesome family.

Friday 6-24-11
We had weekly planning... always fun :/

Then we had an appointment with the Thomas'  Went really well.  I was able to stop the whole lesson on the Holy Ghost and teach them the whole plan of salvation. and it answered a ton of their questions! It was really cool.

Then we stopped by another family who was investigating for a while, and they gave us pictures of the first missionaries that came by their house and told us to give them to them. One being my companion and then the other was one guy he trained...

Then we went over to another investigators house and she was asleep but her husband was there and we spoke with him and his son for about an hour and they are the coolest people ever! Way stoked to keep visiting them.

Then we ate dinner with the Johnsons, i love that family. They are so much fun.  But i think we ate raw chicken, didnt get very cooked, but oh well... we blessed it right?

Then we went with Brother Mauldin to go contact some people, but he basically took us on a tour of his house and of bear valley.  He's got a cool green house though.  And he does aquaponics? Its really strange but really cool at the same time.

Saturday 6-25-11
So i loaded the dishwasher and we had no dish washer soap... so what did i use.....................? Dish Soap... you know like dawn? The liquid stuff. That when you put in the dishwasher it  bubbles up and flows all over the floor... yeah so guess what i did for studies...? Yah, cleaned it all up.  That was fun.  I fell asleep on the floor waiting for more bubbles to come out.  My companion took pictures but... i dont want to ask him for them... he's odd about that kind of stuff... he's odd period. anyways.... after that we went to a guys house that just moved into the ward and we helped him stack a wall in the backyard with big ol' cinder blocks. that was fun, we havent done that kind of service in a while so i really enjoyed it.

Then we went to "Grandmas" and sister moors house, did some service there.  She showed me the dishtowels she's making for mom and i got to pick them out.  They have apples on them! Arent you stoked mom?!?

Then we came in and showered, i now have a permanent white shirt on... all the time.... even with nothing on... worste FARMERS TAN EVER!!! its hideous.. But its ok... My neck got really burned so putting that white shirt back on hurts cuz of collar burn...

Then we visited the Bennetts and their grandaughter was there visiting, her name is Londyn! Crazy name huh? I kind of like it though...

Then we ate dinner at the bethkes and had a big fire because we had to burn some old progress records and it was just a good time.  We always have a lot of fun at the Bethkes

Sunday 6-26-11
Church was long, we were fasting for success of our district.  We are having a hard time finding people.  So we all did a fast.

Me and my companion both got huge headaches and his went away, mine never did.

We went to the Roney's house for dinner.  It was a lot of fun.  They made us some really good Peruvian food and they have 3 teenage boys, so that means i got to pound on the Drumset a little bit, and got to the throw the football through their quarter back training tire stands... they are car tires on 2x4's and they have them all over the yard, so it was fun doing some football tossage, havent done that in a while.  We also taught a girl at their house who is on the focus 15.  She is cool and is progressing really well.  I just hope she's retaining everything.

Then we came home, i still had an insanely bad head ache, and i crashed before it even hit 9:30 and slept all the way to 7:30.... i felt bad because we're supposed to get up at 6:30 but our alarm didnt go off, so in a sense i didnt feel bad because my companion was supposed to set the alarm...  I woke back up with a head ache still but have TONS of energy now.  That was the best sleep of my life!  I think my head aches are related to allergies... But i'm not sure? It just feels like my dome is in a vice all the time haha..

Anyways... i dont know how many of you actually read all this? But i expect more letters in the mail! And lots of emails from simon now that he has his fancy Ipad!  Anyways, i love you all, i pray for all of you every night!  I hope all is well with all of you and i hope you are printing these emails up and saving them otherwise i will have no missionary journal when i get home... which would be bad haha.

Anyways i'll write you next week.  Hope you are all doing well.  Love you all very much!

Love,

Hit my 4 month mark

Subject: Hit my 4 month mark
From: samuel.crapo@myldsmail.net

Helllllllooooooo Family and friends!

Hello everybody, again.  Thanks for the emails. Didnt get any letters this week in the mail but hey! I know you were thinking about writing, so its no biggy.  But i really do appreciate all the emails.  Makes me happy at least one day of the week ;) Just kidding i'm always happy...

Anyways, i just wanna say, everything sounds pretty cool at home.  I got mum's email about pictures and yes i guess i could try.  I was wondering if you got that picture message mum, some people from utah were at our dinner appointment last night, took our picture and sent it to your phone haha.  Theres a lady in my ward who graduated from Hillcrest, and her family (The ones from Utah) were there. So they live at the top of our street by the Goff Mortuary.  Small world eh?

I also want to know what scott is up to? When is boot camp. How long its boot camp? What do you do for the Reserves?  Do you get paid? Will you be on active duty? Will you be shipped somewhere else for camp?  What will you go to school for?

I've been thinking about the military a lot lately... i think its a huge possibility for when i go home...  I used to think about it a lot in high school too...  I didnt do too well in school so i think the Military would be a good choice.  I was thinking of something along the lines of going somewhere when they have been hit by a disaster and basically start clean up and save people who need help... so what is that like... army national guard? I dont know? that would be cool though, to get shipped somewhere, do nothing but help people in need, and hopefully get paid for it, maybe do active duty and just do that.  I think that would be an awesome job...  Anyways i'll look into it when i get home.  And try and stay focused on the dead work out here :/

Oh and i got mom and simon a birthday present today because i know i never got you guys a present... so i got something today. i'll send it off today.  Also saw the "Battle LA" Dvd in the stores. the box made me wanna cry, i wanna see that movie SO BAD!!!! IT LOOKS SO GOOOOOOOOD!!!!

So let me tell you ALL about my weeeeeeeek

Monday 6-13-11
We had half a p-day as you know because we were getting ready for the temple on saturday.  I wasnt in the best of moods because of what happened the night before, which was someone declined their baptisimal invite :( it was not fun.  I hope we get back into their home... we better get back into their home actually! She has 2 pairs of my suit pants that she's fixing...

We went and saw a lot of people, we are going through the ward list of golden hills because more than half of the people are either moved or dead.  They dont do any home teaching, its retarded.

We ate dinner at a members house, the food was really good and there was a baptist man there... fun.... and i caught a mouse in the house as well... that was also fun.

We taught a girl who was just put on the focus fifteen and she is pretty cool.

Then we stopped off at a members house, his name is Joe, it was his 70th birthday.  Poor guy was home alone listening to christian music :( but he was really happy we stopped by.

Tuesday 6-14-11
We did mormon.org in the morning, if you havent been to that website you should!

We went and did service for Joe, and he walked us over to the Country Store and bought us burgers!

Then we went to Wayne and Nita's and we thought we would have them prepare to be baptized by late aug.... and they shot that down too.  So in the matter of 3 days, we invited 4 people to be baptized, and they all said no... Yeah, the works great....

Then we went to a ladies house who we had done service for, she said she would start to take the lessons, so we went over there, and she was 45 minutes late getting out of the shower, and then when we were teaching her.... she fell asleep... multiple times.  i was laughing so hard, we basically left with her still asleep on the couch.

Then we went to the high school for dinner.  The Moats took us over there, the boy scouts were having a huge flag burning, it was way cool! TONS of flags to be burned.  There was also an F-18 that flew like 50 ft over our heads to start it off, that thing was so dang loud it was awesome!  But it was way cool because as they were recognizing the military veterans and officers at the burning, they also wanted to recognize all the Eagle scouts, so me and my comp stood up, and everyone was shocked, we spoke with a lot of cool people after because they thought it was cool that we were eagles.

We went to the church because we had an appointment with a potential, he didnt make it, and we've been trying ever since to set up another appointment... it doesnt looke promising.

Then we got our bikes ready because the next day we were going to bike in golden hills, to save on miles.  We are way over.  There was a lot of complaining from a certain someone i've been chosen to work with.... but i told him what my trainer told me... "PICK UP YOUR SKIRT" i wont say the rest though...

Wednesday 6-15-11
We went to the Chiropractor, Dr. Schall is the man! He has helped me so much while being here, my shoulder is almost back to normal but hurts every now and then, we are just trying to get it back into place.  But it was way funny becuase as he was adjusting my companion, he popped his back and he yelled and was like AH THAT HURT!!! and complained the whole time, made a big scene, i just sat there and laughed, but my companion keeps say "I'm probably never going to go back to the chiro after that" so... he once again needs to "pick up his skirt".

Then we visited sister alvis with brother lewis.  It went pretty well. and we showed a video that applied big time to her! BIG TIME, she loved it! We always brighten her day.  But when i got up to leave, i guess i had been sitting in a pile of dog hair because it looked like my but had been shot with white silly string haha it was so bad, but thanks to you guys! i had a mini lint roller in my backpack and made easy work of that fur!

Then we went to brother lewis' house, where they made us pizza and cookies, its like going to grandmas house when we go there haha its so awesome.

Then we went and changed into service clothes and rode our bikes to help a lady.  Then after helping that lady we went and helped another lady.  It kind of sucked becuase on the way to the other ladies house, my comp FLEW down a hill, like way far away from where i was (Probably because he has more weight to pick up speed) anyways, he's way down, cant even hear me yelling at him that his big dumb butt was going the wrong way... so we got to ride back up that big hill... i've been cursed... but hey it was a good work out! Woo Hoo!

Then we had dinner with the Warings, and that went... well.  They were getting ready to go camping.

Then we stopped by Grandma's house, played with her kitten and talked and what not.

Then we contacted some people on the ward list, and then came in and made a bunch of phone calls.

Thursday 6-16-11 (Month Mark)
We went to district meeting at our church building and ate taco bell after (Yummm)

Then we went to the store because my companion wanted some service gloves, it ended up taking a long time and a lot of miles...  We were 30 minutes late for our next appointment,  but it was just service up at a couples new/old home.  We were helping them fix it up before they moved in.  The place was TRASHED! Like it should be condenmed! haha but it was a lot of fun helping them out, lots of non members to talk to.

And then we went to Chesters house where we ate dinner and did some work on his ranch.  It was a good time.

And then after that we didnt know what to do because we were all the way out in stallion and only had an hour left, so we went back to the first service we did and helped them some more because my companion didnt want to go back the next day...

Then we went in and planned and i wrote down a whole bunch of people from the ward list and told elder summers if they were less active, active,or do not contact.  He made a big fuss about seeing people under DNC... but what are they going to do? Say "Do not contact me?" Ok then... we wont, but it doesnt hurt to try, you never know where their heart is at now...

Friday 6-17-11
Weekly planning took a really long time becuase we just had 4 people deny a baptisimal invite, we had to have a game plan.

And then we went to Brother Dixon's house, who is pretty cool, i think we are going to help him get to the temple.  Poor guy was preparing with his wife to go to the temple and she died a couple days before they were going to go, he never ended up going :( Made me sad, it would be so cool to go to the temple with him.

Then we went to the Bennetts and gave Sister Bennett a blessing because she had been sick.

We ate dinner at some peoples wedding practice thing...  The bishop is marrying some people and we had him for dinner so he just took us to that.. Cool thing was the lady who is getting married is someone we had been looking for, for a way long time out in Stallion. So now we know she lives in Golden Hills.

Then we watched mountain of the lord with the holloways. Because the next day they were getting ready for the temple, to be sealed!

Saturday 6-18-11
We went to the temple, bro williams drove us (Sister Bethke's Dad) and he is a speed Demon! we got there with an hour to spare!  But it was nice, a way nice time at the temple, so cool to see them and their little 2 year old be sealed to them for eternity! The spirit was so strong.

Then we went to in and out for lunch and came home and got back on our usual activities... Elder Summers was having another break down but it wasnt as bad, i cheered him up with some funny stories and stuff.

Then we went to the bethkes and had a fire and ate dinner, it was a really good day.

Sunday 6-19-11
We had 7 hours of church.. yay! and then we ate dinner at a house where all the hillcrest grads were! It was crazy, spoke a lot about home and stuff.  They are a way awesome family.  then after that we went to the Kills and had a good time over there.  Summers and her clanked heads because they are big football buffs and their favorite teams are rivals so it got kinda crazy.  but it was way funny to sit there and watch her punch summers, something i cant do... It was great, her husband had to hit her with a fly swatter, and he kept yelling "You're not allowed to touch missionaries" it was pretty funny.

Anyways that's my week... not so eventful... not so fun... but better than the last two i guess?

I just hope things are going to get better.  Anyways, everyone stay safe! Love you all, i pray for you guys every dang day haha.  I hope you are recieving blessings through my trials :D  have a good week i'll send you another email next week.

Love
