Hello Family And Friends,
So this was an interesting week. Last week i told you guys i was going to send some pictures like us roping llamas and stuff, BUT, unfortunately my card for my camera became CORRUPTED!!! UGH!!! It wanted me to delete all the pictures on it! Thats over 800 Missionary pictures!!!! :( But Elder Haynie has a guy in his ward that says that he could take a look at it. So, i gave it to him (Brother Cable) and he has held onto it since. Well, i talked to him on sunday and he said that he can only save about 80 - 90% of the pictures, which is WAY better than deleting them all. But he said he might know some people who can save them all, but you'd have to buy an attachment that cost big BUCK$. So i dont know about that, i just might have to go withe the 80-90% :( So that's why there were no pictures last week. I'll try and see if i cant get my card back and send some, hopefully the llama ones will still be there :/
So here's my weeeeeeeeeeeek.
Monday 5-9-11
Was P-Day. But we got dressed in our Pros. Clothes and went to Sister De Silvas work place. She wanted us to meet some guys at her work. she says the guys say there is no way that 19 year old boys could behave so well. They say all the 19 year olds they know are out doing bad things, and drinking and what not. So we went and met them and they were pretty cool. So then we went to monday funday and sister De Silvas daughter was there and asked if one of the guys was making fun of us and cracking jokes, and i said no, they were both way quiet. And she was shocked because i guess that guy is never quiet, so i think we made an impression.
So this was the day i found out my camera was broken so i was all depressed when i got home, but i checked the mail, and i was so shocked to see i had a letter from Sister Jensen. Sister Jensen was this way cool sister i met in the MTC, we got to talking while i was there because i was sitting in an office 90% of the time i was there and she was in the office frequently too. I thought about her while i was out here and i was wondering how she was doing. We didnt exchange addresses or even names. but i did remember seeing "Sister jensen" on her tag and that she said she was supposed to be going to brazil on her mission but got changed to the Orlando FL mission. So, i looked up the mission address to the Florida Orlando mission and i sent her a letter. Not knowing if it would get to the right "Sister Jensen" or if that was even the right Address. But it got to her and she wrote me back after like 2 or 3 weeks. I was so stoked the hear from her! It changed my day.
So after all that we came home and did laundry and wrote letters. Went shopping. Made dinner. and then me and my Comp went to an investigator (Cyprus) and taught her the gospel of jesus christ, where you take the bowl of water and put pepper in it, then you stick your finger in the water and you get pepper all over you, (the water represents the world, your finger represents you, the pepper represents sin) any ways when you get baptized you clean yours sins away, and then you get the holy ghost (dish soap all over your finger) and when you go back into the bowl, the pepper goes to the edges. Its sweet. and she was so excited about it all. it was awesome!
After that we went to Laura Strong's house and it was empty, but we caught her outside and found her new apartment, which is right down the street from ours, and her heater wasnt working so me and Elder Pulham fixed it. She was so happy.
And after that we dropped by Brother Cables house, where the other missionaries were and left my card there to see if he could fix it.
Tuesday 5-10-11
We had Zone Conference! Seven Hours of non stop, mind blowing... fun. But it went by quick, it wasnt bad at all.
Sucky thing was, i had to go to Bakersfield for an exchange, and i was in the Spanish Speaking area! So the whole day and next day i was there, i listened to a missionary teach in spanish and i just sat there. they looked at me like i was some Gringo. Everytime they looked at me and said something, i would just say "Poquito espanol" haha that put em in their place! but it was worthless being there, the only thing i learned was how greatful i am i dont have to speak mexican, i mean spanish. the Elder i was with though was way cool, His name is Elder Bills. I guess he played Football for BYU back home. he's way nice, which is odd for a football player, he's not cocky or anything so it was awesome to hang out with him for a bit.
Wednesday 5-11-11
Since i was still in the Spanish Mission area in Bakersfield and they have an extra HOUR of study for language, the morning seemed to DRAG! We did a lot of tracting, and went and contacted some other people, again, all i did was "Poquito espanol" and that was IT! Oh, and i ate some WAY good mexican food.
Then we went back to Tehachapi, and i have never been so happy to be surrounded by hicks in my life, haha i speak their language! But we started to go see some Less Actives. Ate dinner with the Lewis Family (Who are awesome) I'm gonna come back and see them after the mission.
Then on our way in we went to the other Elders Apartments and i guess they were at an apointment and got a whole bunch of old ties from a man who passed away a while ago. And elder Haynie didnt like them much because they were skinnier, but i like skinny ties, i'm not a fan of the Fat ones. I dont like SKINNY ties but i like them... skinnyish i dont know how to put it? i think at Macy's they called them Scholar ties, or preppy ties? so they dont get too fat at the end, they stay straight pretty much all the way down. But they are like 2 inches thick? heck i'm done explaining this haha! its too confusing, but anyways if you wanna get me ties, those are the kind i like.
Thursday 5-12-11
We woke up at 6 and went to the Church to play ball, but when we got there, the seminary kids were in their playing ping pong, but we met with a member kid who said if we wanted his refferals then we would invite him to play ball in the mornings too, and he would bring his friends to play ball. We have 2 refferals now just from that.
After that we went to sister Alvis' house. We had a good discussion and learned more about her. Her life story is kind of scary.
Then we went to see Wayne, who is trying to quit smoking, and he thinks its impossible and he has little faith. but in my studies a couple weeks ago i found some SICK scriptures that reminded me of him. Thing is, they were really bold and strong, they would set most people off. but i thought that his relation with the missionaries is strong enough to take a little damage. So we went in there, read the scriptures and laid it on the line. it was crazy, and usually he's all talkative and it shut him up, got him thinking. I hope it helps him. he would be such a STRONG member.
Then we visited Tyler and Travis, Recent Converts. and we just set up an appointment to start teaching the recent convert lessons. we also stopped by the park to watch their little brother tanner's tee ball game. it was pretty sweet.
We ate dinner at Sister Moores and Grandma's house. It was fun, they had some relatives there and it was just a big rowdy night. it was way fun though, they made us a cake that said "Good Luck Elders" on it.
Then we stopped by the Holloways and chatted with them.
Friday 5-13-11
In the morning we went to Help Ben Jacobson with his Eagle Project, we didnt get to stay long because we had an appointment after but his project was pretty cool. He was in the Tehachapi Dog Park, and went around a big tree, and built a bencht that wrapped around the whole tree. It looked pretty good.
then we went to bear valley to borrow some weed wackers, and we went to brother salyers house (his kids have a baptisimal date with us) and we helped him get his weeds down. It was pretty good. Minus the bad allergies.
then we went and showered and went to the church to update the area books and plan a little.
then we went and taught Cyprus again and she wasnt feeling good but we taught the Chastity and the Commandments. She is so cool, she is flying through the lessons.
Then our dinner cancelled so we just ate ate home, and went to John and Michelle Kings and just basically talked all night. It was good.
Saturday 5-14-11
We ate breakfast at the Leishmans like usual.
we went and helped Chester at his ranch. he's way awesome, he's not really an investigator but i can totally see him joining, he drinks and stuff, but he's married with a kid and another on the way. the ranch he works on is kind of dumpy, but thats why we were over there and we cleaned it up a bunch and ran a whole bunch of stuff to the dump. It was funny because on our way there we saw a Coyote, and he loves killin stuff. haha his wife was like, dont tell him you saw a coyote otherwise he'll go crazy, and as soon as she said that we heard his big deisel truck rev up and floor it our way (he must have just got our message at that point) and he pulled up and was like, "I got the gun lets go kill this thing!" hahaha
After the dump, Chester took us to a place called Taco Sammich. it was a lot like Betos.
then we went to sister Finely's and helped her work on another ladies yard, and my allergies were way bad! I was sneezing so bad i got a bad bloody nose. Oh it was bad, my eyes almost swelled shut. The zyrtec wasnt helping, haha its expired.
then even though i looked like i had been crying because of my allergies, we went to see Lorretta, and just got her watching the videos on Mormon.org. You guys should check it out, they have some SICK videos. I think it would be SICK to work for the church, making videos. I'd love it. i might look into it when i get home.
then we went to the Bethke's for Dinner as usual. And they had a HUGE fire going in their backyard this time because me and elder pulham went and got wood for them, i'll send pictures... maybe.
Sunday 5-15-11
We went to our 8 hours of church as usual. Last week we were arguing with a guy about baptism by water. he doesnt believe you have to be baptized in water, he says the bible doesnt say that anywhere, he's one of those guys who thinks he's saved just from believing in christ, and so we had a huge long discussion with him last week that gave me the biggest dang head ache cuz he wasnt taking anything. everything we said went way over his head. It was a pointless battle. And he was there at church this week, and guess what the lesson was.... BAPTISM... Headache X2 this sunday... it was bad. and i ran out of excedrin too so i had to just take it haha.
We taught the Salyers the word of wisdom and tithing. It was way good. they loved it. And we also are getting them ready for their baptisimal interview which is this week.
Then we went to the Johnsons for dinner. We had a blast there. Their family is so cool. Like all the kids are different, you would have never guessed they are all blood related. And their parents have a cool way of teaching them. the dad is quiet but can be funny, and the mom is strict, and makes sure they learn. She'll also tell them the truth straight up, like "wow, what you just said was stupid" it sounds so bad, but the kids have grown so much because of it. they are the kind of kids who dont care what other people think and they just do better next time, if that was me when i was a little kid and my mom had said, "wow you really suck at baseball" i would have been in tears. but she also compliments them on things they do well and she takes advantage of those things. She'll sign em up for the things they are good at. its just way different. its awesome.
Then after that i sat at home and updated area books while Elder Pulham took numbers... fun fun.
Well that's pretty much it i think? Its another long letter! i know mum likes these. I'm loving it out here, i hope you guys are liking these letters... Love you all.
