Subject: First Week Of Training!
Hello Everybody! Heres my regular SUPER DUPER LONG email! haha
Tuesday 10-4-11
We went to Transfer meeting! It was super long because there were 15 missionaries going home and 20 missionaries coming in! So it took forever. But it was way cool to see missionaries you had served with. I love seeing the guys i had good times with... i didnt like seeing the guys i had bad times with because they come up to you as if your best friends! But hey if you forget those 6 weeks of misery and woe its pretty easy to be their friend! haha
I got my new companion. His name is Elder Bullard! THIS KID IS HUGE! He was like obsessed with Jersey Shore when he left so he's kind of got a pride issue, but its ok, i'm workin on it haha! He's got a way thick accent cuz he's from North Carolina. I swear all the kid did back home was work out and eat... he's seriously massive. Probably gonna go college football after the mission. I feel like I'm Forrest Gump Sometimes talking to Bubba... Tellin me about all the Shrimp. Except he talks about stories from back home. This kid can talk your ear off. But he's a good kid and we've been having a lot of success.
On our way back from Transfer meeting we stopped at a chinese restaurant and ate some food. It was way good.
Then we went on splits with the Ward Missionaries. And that was pretty good. If no one is home we usually end up going to 31 Flavors... so we eat there a lot.
We also got our bikes and stuff... I got an old road bike... Its pretty stellar... i'm not taking it off of any jumps because i'd kill it.. My last bike i was flying all over the place on it! Jumping it off everything. I loved it. Now this new bike just gets me places faster! Not as fun. And the seat isreally hard... BUT IT WAS FREE!!! :D
Wednesday 10-5-11
It RAINED ALL DAY!!!!
But we had district meeting and then we ate lunch as a district. It was a great... time.
Bullard is sucking wind on his bike. I dont think he's ever ridden before because he had his gears set to 3 and 7 for the longest time... i was like... do you shift gears? and he was like no! I've gotta keep them high so i can keep up with you... hahahaha! Silly greenie. I had to kind of teach him how to ride a bike but he's the kind of person that doesnt like being taught how to do something... but i wont mess with that because i dont want him to go hulk on me... hahah But everytime we get to an appointment he is huffin and puffin. Not used to this kind of endurance. Plus he refuses to sit on the seat because it "hurts" so i usually have like a 100 yard lead on him and then i have to stop and wait for him to catch up.. Its pretty hilarious.
Then we had a lesson with a referral! YES! FINALLY! His name is David and his girlfriend is Less Active but he came to her house and saw a picture of the temple and was like "what is that" and she said "thats a temple and i wont marry a man unless he takes me there'' ah! so that got his attention! And now he's our new investigator! i'm so happy! he doesnt know much so you have to explain things simply!
Then we went to the Guidos for dessert. Their daughter Alicia loved me i guess? And her kids loved me! So she wanted me to say bye before she left for home in Provo! But she told me to go visit her and her kids and she'd feed me haha! YES!
So being a trainer they have a new 12 week program that consists of an extra hour of assigned companion study... its not very fun but its really effective... so we do a lot of studying...
Oh side note! If you put mine and elder Bullards name together! You get Bullcrap! Thats so funny. With elder Jenkins if you put our first names together you got Samuel Adams!! Way funny!
Thursday 10-6-11
We contacted another referral! Her boyfriend is a member in bakersfield and so we went to go see her. She's very religious and we taught a lesson and then comitted her to be baptized!!! YES!!! She's got a date for November 5th!
Then we went to the Santa Susana ward and taught a less active lady!
We went tracted and handed out a book of mormon. I also got a flat tire so we had to come back and fix it!
The andersons came and took us out to dinner at some burger place! It was way good! And we saw a double rainbow. As we were driving down the street every single person was like standing there looking at the sky as if their were aliens coming to get us. Seriously like a scene from independance day! it was crazy, they all pulled out there phones and started taking pictures.
Then we went on splits again... and guess where we went? 31 Flavors of course! haha
Friday 10-7-11
I got a package from mom! YES! I liked it a lot!
Then we went to the church and did weekly planning. My poor little greenie was so worn out from riding bikes that he kept falling asleep while we were planning... poor little lamb haha. So he's pretty oblivious as to who everyone is and what we are doing because he falls asleep all the time!
We went to lunch with the district because some elders got a $50 gift card for any where and we went and got a whole bunch of dominos pizzas and it was glorious.
Then we had a lesson with Ann (the girl with the baptismal date) her boyfriend (Who is a member) joined us! and it was great!
Then we ate dinner with the same elders because nobody signed up for dinner. They had some extra money left over on their card so they took us out again.
I made some packets that are going to bump up the Referrals in the Santa Susana Ward!
And we also got Anti'd HARD CORE! Some guy stopped us and just told us how we were wrong in every way for like, 15 minutes.
Saturday 10-8-11
We did service in the morning... just helped a family pack up their house because they are moving. My comp, being the greenie he is had his t shirt sleeves rolled up saying "i'm working on a tan elder" i was like " Dont worry about it, nobody but you is going to see your tan for two years" haha! But he kept em up... like i said... pride. But its ok! i can handle that!
Then we went home and did studies... you have to do the studies...
Then we went to go hand out packets but nobody was home because they were at the adult session of conference! Blast! should have known!
Then we went to Barry's house and he took us to dinner at a nice little mexican restaurant. Then went to his house where he took pictures of us and sent them to our parents. haha it was pretty funny. Then we watched Prophet of the Restoration with him and his son (who is not a member) and they liked it a lot.
We also spoke to a guy who was working outside in his yard. We offered to help and he almost took us up on it but decided no. We spoke to him for like... 20 minutes until his wife came out and shooed us off! Blast! But i placed a book of mormon!
Sunday 10-9-11
We had stake conference! And our investigator showed up! YES! We sat front row with her and her boyfriend. The only missionaries in the zone to have investigators! And what better sunday to have one because our mission president was speaking and saw we had one there! YES!
Then we left and did our studies. and ate lunch.
Then we went to see brother penrod and spent some time there talking with him. Comp was like "Elder when are we going to do work?" i was like "WHAT!?!?! We are doing work!" but of course in greenie language WORK=Tracting... So we went tracting for like 2 hours! hahaha! All the doors he tried got slammed in his face.. He needs to work on his tecnique, he's trying to force feed to gospel to them instead of invite them... i've done examples for him, but he never changes his style. He'll have to soon if he wants some success to come from the most ineffective way of finding... But then we had dinner! and it was good. I have a picture from dinner of me holding a bearded dragon! i'll send it!
Then we went to Sister Starns (less active) and set up an appointment with her! So we've got lots of appointments that i set up and any spare time i ask my comp what he wants to do. Usually tract, so we tract!
And that is it! That's my week! I hope you enjoy it! I sure... did! I love you all! I miss you all! Cant believe its almost been 8 weeks...! Yikes! Watch out year mark! here i come! haha
Love,
Elder Crapo
